5 alternatives to Uber Eats
Is there anything better than a good meal? What about a good meal delivered right to your door?
Since launching in 2014, Uber Eats has become one of the most popular delivery services for eating in. But sometimes you need options — and not just on the menu.
Below are five popular Uber Eats alternatives to try out. All offer ordering through their website or iOS and Android apps; they also have intuitive ordering processes, delivery time estimates, and multiple payment options that include debit and credit cards as well as PayPal and Venmo.
Your choice may depend largely on which services are available in your area, the local restaurant selection associated with each, and which process you find to be the most user-friendly.
Available in over 850 cities in the U.S. and Canada, DoorDash recently surpassed close rivals Grubhub and Uber Eats to become the most popular food delivery app in the U.S. DoorDash boasts a wide selection of restaurants, representing more than 30 cuisines, from both national chains and local eateries. Unlike other food delivery apps that mostly focus on city centers, DoorDash is more widely available in suburban areas.
Users like the app’s intuitive and polished interface, which makes it easy to quickly order and track a delivery, schedule a delivery for later, or order for pickup. With the Drinks button, you can order beer, wine, spirits, and mixers from participating wine and liquor stores. The app even includes a “Yum Score” that rates restaurants by food quality and speed of delivery.
DoorDash also features group ordering, which allows users to send a link to friends to participate in a shared order. Each person can add items and see the delivery status once the order is placed.

DoorDash delivery fees vary by restaurant, and are usually between $6.99 and $10.99. Unlike other delivery apps, DoorDash doesn’t have a minimum order amount. Restaurants can offer coupons on DoorDash, and special promotions are routinely featured within the app.
Frequent DoorDash customers can save by subscribing to DashPass, the app’s official subscription service. If you decide to use the Doordash Tablet for order reception, you have the option to utilize it without charge during the trial period, then a fee of $6 per week will be applicable within the US.
A longstanding leader in food delivery apps, Grubhub features over 300,000 restaurants in more than 3,200 cities in the U.S., giving consumers the widest choice of options. Grubhub also owns several other major food delivery apps, such as Seamless, Tapingo, OrderUp, and more.
Before you create an account, enter a delivery address to see the list of restaurants that deliver to your location. You can search for restaurants by cuisine, specific menu items offered, or location. Grubhub allows you to save your favorite restaurants, schedule deliveries, and order for pickup.
This is where Grubhub shines. Grubhub is free to use and doesn’t charge users a delivery fee, as the app makes money by charging a percentage to participating restaurants. However, restaurants can charge customers a delivery fee or set a minimum order amount. Grubhub offers three levels to support your business: Basic, Plus and Premium plans, with the rates varying from 5 to 15 percent.
Grubhub has the most national partners, allowing them to offer the most competitive pricing and a wider range of special promotions. The Perks page of the app lists offers for free delivery or discounts, and users can earn rewards by purchasing from eligible restaurants.
Frequent customers can upgrade to Grubhub+ for $9.99 per month, which provides unlimited free delivery from 100,000 participating restaurants and 10 percent cashback on orders.
As its name suggests, Caviar is a premium service that serves the upscale side of the food delivery market. Currently available in 24 cities across the United States, many of the restaurants available in the app offer delivery exclusively through Caviar.
Previously owned by Square, Caviar was acquired by DoorDash in 2019. Like other apps, Caviar provides real-time GPS tracking for deliveries and the option to save on fees by picking up your order, but it differentiates itself by including a photo for every menu item on offer.
The fees differ for every restaurant, you can view the fees on the checkout screen which allows you to ascertain the total amount for your order prior to making the payment.
Unlike Grubhub or DoorDash, which focus on food delivery, Postmates delivers a wide range of goods from retailers, grocery stores, and restaurants. Postmates is available in cities across all 50 U.S. states and will deliver just about anything you need, including dinner. Unlike other services, Postmates offers 24-7 service, delivering as long as the restaurant is open.
Postmates charges a $0.99 to $9.99 delivery fee, with additional “Blitz pricing” fees during peak delivery times. The app also offers special deals for select restaurants, as well as Postmates Party, which allows users to get free delivery from trending restaurants by pooling their order with other nearby deliveries.
Like Postmates, New York City-based delivery.com delivers a wide range of items and services in hundreds of cities across the U.S. Users can order groceries, alcohol, lunch, or even dry-cleaning services. If you’re looking to get errands done while ordering your meal in the same app, this might be the service for you.
Like Grubhub, delivery.com doesn’t charge a fee to use its service, but restaurants may charge a delivery fee and require an order minimum. Every order racks up points that can be used as credits on future orders or to access exclusive app-only discounts.
Other UberEats alternatives
There are a number of UberEats alternatives outside the U.S. Some of the largest include Foodpanda, Foodora, and Deliveroo in Europe and Asia; Just Eat in Europe, Asia/Pacific, and Mexico; and Swiggy and Zomato in India.
Also, if you know which restaurant you want to order from, you can always order from them directly! Many restaurants provide their own delivery services, and you can reach them by phone, their website, or social media and apps like Facebook Messenger and WhatsApp.
With all of these options, there’s no reason to miss out on quality dining, from the comfort of your own home.
